The New Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation Trailer

Hey folks, Jonathan here. I'm on vacation this week, which is why we haven't recorded a podcast. But I wanted to take a moment to talk about a new movie trailer.

It's for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.  Here's the trailer -- I'll have more to say later.

Here's where I have a bone to pick - Baldwin's character says that the IMF needs to be shut down because it is an irresponsible organization. Considering that most of the movies to this point have been about internal double crosses, I would find it very challenging to argue that point. Here's my logic:

  • Mission Impossible - 1996 film - the main plot revolves around an IMF team leader going all evil and framing an agent for it.
  • Mission Impossible II - an ex-IMF agent goes bonkers and threatens the world.
  • Mission Impossible III - an IMF agent acts as a mole for a terrorist organization in order to orchestrate a situation that would require a first-strike from IMF (he does this all on his own, not under orders).
  • Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol - Okay, this is the first film in the series that doesn't have an IMF agent or team leader as a villain.
That sort of track record seems like ample justification to at least put the IMF program under serious review, don't you think?
